Laura Frick grew up in a golf family, so the game was never far away. Her grandparents taught her to play at 8 years old, her sister played in high school, and her uncle is a PGA of America Golf Professional.
“It was something I grew up loving to be around,” she shared.
Frick, a Hudsonville, Michigan, native, entered the PGA Golf Management program at Ferris State University already knowing where she wanted to end up. “I’ve known I wanted to lead major championships since I was a young college student,” she said.
After graduating in 2015, she joined the PGA of America and worked in the Player Engagement and Member Championships departments. In December 2021, she became Director of Competitions, leading national events that included the PGA Jr. League Championships.
In 2025, Frick was named Championship Director of the 2026 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club. She was the first female PGA of America Member to hold that role for one of the Association’s spectator championships.
Her next assignment is one of the biggest in sports. Frick is now Championship Director of the 2029 Ryder Cup, which returns to Hazeltine after 2016.
“It’s truly a job that I will look forward to waking up for every day,” she said. “I’m proud of the dedication it took to get here and I’m so thankful for the network of people who guided and supported me along the way.”
Frick’s career has taken her around the world to legendary venues, but she says the people as the best part.
What she loves most is how far the game stretches. “I can go out and play a round with my young nephews or my 90-year-old grandma,” she said. “It’s a game for a lifetime.”
She’s also encouraged by where golf is heading. “I love how the game is evolving right now by opening doors and creating new opportunities for people to get involved,” she said.
