More than 200 junior golfers from Dallas to St. Louis came together on Saturday at the PGA Championship for PGA Jr. League Day. It was an opportunity for juniors golfers and their PGA Coaches to enjoy a Major Championship experience at Southern Hills Country Club.
Katherine, 10, Emma, 12, and Jimmy, 8, are members of the PGA Jr. League program in Dallas nicknamed the Pythons. While they’ve attended other tournaments in their hometown of Dallas on both the LPGA and PGA Tour, their visit to Southern Hills marked their first time attending a Major Championship.
Katherine, Emma and Jimmy took advantage of the premier seating at No. 7 where they had a chance to see Justin Rose, Cameron Smith, Jordan Spieth and Harold Varner III, who is Emma’s favorite golfer.
And what were the highlights of the day?
“I liked having the experience to watch all of this,” said Emma.
“Being able to see everyone,” said Katherine.
“Getting to eat hot dogs and kissing the Wannamaker trophy,” said Jimmy.

Saturday, the juniors received a special lanyard and souvenir ticket when they arrive arriving at Southern Hills. They received a special, behind-the-scenes view at what goes into maintaining the practice areas at a Major Championship venue, and a front row seat to watch their favorite players warm up on the driving range ahead of their Saturday round. PGA Jr. Leaguers also received private viewing access at the 7th green and took a group photo by the iconic clock tower at Southern Hills Country Club.
It was a memorable day at an epic venue for the golf’s next generation.
And ICYMI, PGA Jr. League’s Team Oklahoma paid a visit to Southern Hills ahead of the 2022 PGA Championship. The Team visited with Cameron Young and shared a few tips that we imagine Young has taken to the course this week.
