The Northeastern New York PGA Section recently hosted its PGA Jr. League Section Championship at Town of Colonie Golf Course in Schenectady, New York. A total of eight teams competed in the 13-under division over two days of competition.
On the opening day, the All-Star Teams were vying for 4 spots and the right to come back for day two. The format was stroke play, with four matches of two person teams playing a team scramble. Saratoga National GC/AndersMattson (96); Berkshire Area (115); Saratoga Golf & Polo Club (119) and Clifton Park Area (125) advanced to the 2nd day of competition.
The teams utilized PGA Jr. League scoring, which breaks the 9-hole round down into 3, 3 hole matches with each 3 holes worth 1 point for a total of 3 points to be earned per match.
Saratoga National GC/AndersMattson earned 11 points and the Berkshire Area earned 8.5 points to win their matches and face-off in the Championship match. Saratoga National GC/Anders Mattson then won the Championship Match, securing 11.5 points.
Both Saratoga National and Berkshire will advance to play in the PGA Jr. League Regional Championship at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse in September, where they will compete against teams from the Western New York PGA and Central New York PGA.
