The Region 4 13u Champions - The Hot Shot Golf Academy @ Westwood All-Stars.
Over Labor Day weekend, 13 teams of junior golfers competed in the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Regional at Milham Park Golf Club in Kalamazoo, Mich., to determine a 13u and 17u age division champion.
HOT SHOT GOLF ACADEMY @ WESTWOOD 13U ALL-STARS PUNCH RETURN TICKET TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Hot Shot Golf Academy @ Westwood 13u All-Stars will return to represent Pennsylvania at the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., Oct. 6-9. Their back-to-back win came down to the final putt on the final hole against the Kinsale 1 13u All-Stars from Ohio.
Kinsale 1 was top-seeded following their 31-under-par performance during Saturday’s stroke play qualifying round, with Hot Shot Golf Academy @ Westwood just behind them at 28-under-par. Seeded third and fourth were two Ohio-based teams from Medina Country Club––Medina Deegan (-24) and Medina Union (-10). Medina Deegan was named in honor of their former teammate, 16-year-old Deegan Bee, who passed away tragically in June in a car crash. Bee competed on Team Ohio in the 2019 National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship, where he was profiled for surviving a motocross accident and finding a love for golf during his recovery.
Sunday morning’s semi-final match play saw Kinsale 1 defeat Medina Union 9-3, while Hot Shot Golf Academy @ Westwood narrowly-defeated Medina Deegan 6.5-5.5. It was 13-year-old playing partners Dexter James and Jacob Rainieri who secured their team’s win on the final hole in the championship match against Kinsale 1, with Rainieri sinking the final winning putt to send the team back to the National Championship.
The bottom four 13u seeded teams––The Orchards Golf Club (-5), Cleveland West (-3), Fox Den & JB Golf (+3) and EagleVision 2 (+44)––were given the opportunity to participate in an optional 9-hole, two-person scramble Raptor Shootout on Sunday. Fox Den & JB Golf All-Stars Ellie Hutzler, 13, and Emma Gonzalez-Ribble, 10, won the shootout with a 6-under-par 30.
NORTHERN 1 17U ALL-STARS DEFEND REGIONAL CHAMPION TITLE
This marks the second year 17u All-Star teams of golfers ages 14-17 are competing in the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship Season, concluding their journey at the Regionals.
Like their fellow Pennsylvania-based counterparts in the 13u division, the Northern 1 17u All-Stars went back-to-back with their Regional win.
Northern 1 was top-seeded following their 10-under-par Saturday stroke play qualifying round, with Great Lakes Bay seeded second (-4); Medina 17u seeded third (+9); The Albatrosses seeded fourth (+19) and the Run Away Birdies seeded fifth (+31). The top four advanced to Sunday morning’s semi-final match play round.
Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay defeated Ohio’s Medina 17u 5-4, while Northern 1 defeated Ohio’s The Albatrosses 8-1. Meeting in the afternoon championship round, Northern 1 defended their 17u title with a 5.5-3.5 win over Great Lakes Bay.
