Brooke Henderson won her second Major Championship at The Amundi Evian Championship. She previously won the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in 2016.
Brooke Henderson won her second Major Championship at The Amundi Evian Championship in Evian-Les-Bains, France. It was the 24-year-old professional from Canada's 12th LPGA Tour title, and she's showing no signs of slowing down.
Henderson shot an impressive overall score of 17 under to edge out Sophia Schubert, who posted four sub-70 rounds, by one shot.
“I stayed pretty patient, as patient as I could, under the circumstances,” Brooke Henderson said during a post-round interview, “Going into the back nine you know the saying is that majors are won on the back nine on Sunday, so I just tried to keep that frame of mind.”
And winning on the back nine she did. Going 3 under over the the last five holes, Henderson won her second Major title after draining a birdie putt on the 72nd hole.
Without that clutch putt made on the 72nd hole, Henderson would have found herself in a playoff against Schubert. It all came down to making that vital putt and having the ability to stick to her routine, no matter the situation.
Brooke Henderson is able to make the putts to win because she keeps her tempo, her routine, and her mentality the exact same, no matter the situation. Changing any of these elements on the 18th green of her final round can risk disaster. Find a routine that works for you, so that if you have a putt to qualify for your school’s golf team, win $5 off a buddy or become the first Canadian golfer to win two Major Championships, you can stay in the zone and drain the important putt.
From the opening round, it was Brooke Henderson’s Championship to win or lose. Major Champions Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko and Sei Young Kim were closing in on the Canadian at various points throughout the Championship, but Henderson did not falter.
Next up on the Major Championship calendar... the AIG Women’s Open at Muirfield in East Lothian, Scotland, August 4th through 7th.
