The 2022 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship just concluded at Union League in Philadelphia.
So you might be wondering, what’s PGA WORKS? Put simply, PGA WORKS is on a mission to change the face of the game. And this mission is a dream with a plan.
PGA WORKS is looking to ensure the industry workforce looks more like America.
Through fellowships, college scholarships, career exploration events and Championship Golf, PGA WORKS is inspiring talent from diverse backgrounds to pursue a career throughout the golf industry and beyond.
The impact that’s been made since its inception has been remarkable.
Since 2018, PGA WORKS has awarded $280,000 in Golf Management University Scholarships.
Since its inception in 2017, a total of 46 students have participated in the PGA WORKS Fellowship program, (not including the current class of 2022 Fellows).
PGA WORKS Fellowship alumni have experienced a 90% job placement rate in golf/sports following their fellowship.
Past fellows have worked for GOLFTEC, The Honda Classic, The First Tee, Westchester Country Club The Club at the Strand, NBCUniversal and the Milwaukee Bucks among other sports and golf companies, organizations and green-grass facilities. Additionally, several fellows have gone on to work full-time in PGA Section offices throughout the country.
Since its inception in 1986, thousands of student-athletes have participated in the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship, now known as the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship. A total of 162 students from 41 schools competed in 2021, with 82 percent identifying themselves as “non-white.”
Since its debut at the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, nearly 700 students have participated in the PGA WORKS Beyond the Green career development program at in-person and virtual events across the country.
In 2021, nearly 80 percent of the participants identified themselves as non-white with the intent of learning more about career opportunities in the golf industry and beyond. PGA WORKS was able to provide historically underrepresented talent with the tool, resources and access to jump start their career journey.
And PGA WORKS is just getting started.
