Phil Mickelson Proves That Age is Just a Number

Published on

You’re never really done until you’re done, and Phil Mickelson is far from done. At 50 years old, he is building momentum that has put him in a good spot to possibly win his first major championship in almost 8 years this week at the PGA Championship on Kiawah Island.
A fan favorite, Mickelson has always been full of surprises over the course of his unique career. The last time he won the PGA Championship in 2005, he was 35 years old. He was able to edge out some of the best talent in the world from Tiger Woods to Vijay Singh at Batsurol Golf Club. Cut to this week at the 2021 PGA Championship 16 years later and there is a slight sense that everything and nothing has changed at the same time.
Mickelson was able to fire a first-round 70 and a second-round 69 (highlighted by 6 birdies on the front 9), which landed him at the top of the leaderboard midday.
If there was ever an argument that golf is the sport for life, look no further than the show that Mickelson is putting on this week. While many younger than him struggle to figure out wind and sand, Phil walks down the fairways cool, calm and collected in his signature sunglasses...
And he might just walk home with the Wanamaker.
