The PGA WORKS Scholarship provides financial assistance to ten aspiring PGA Professionals at PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) Universities nationwide.
Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) is one of the 18 accredited PGM Schools, and two of their program’s students received the award in 2020. Cole Carrigan and Mark Howard both sat down with us recently to discuss their PGA WORKS experience in greater detail.
Mark Howard is a rising sophomore at EKU, and has dreams of one day impacting the lives of up and coming youth golfers, similar to how he was impacted by golf professionals during his childhood.
“I see myself as someone who will continue helping people my whole life,” added Howard. “I enjoy watching people grow in the game of golf, but more importantly I enjoy being the driving force behind [...] another person’s chance to receive their goals. I aspire to help others one day as others have been able to help me in my life.”
For the first time in 2020, four PGA WORKS Scholars were current high school seniors. Cole Carrigan, just happens to be one of them. When asked what he looks forward to the most about beginning his path to PGA Membership, he had quite the list of experiences he was looking forward to. None more important than learning how to professionally use Trackman.
“I’m most looking forward to learning more about the golf swing, and most importantly learning how to use Trackman,” added Carrigan. “I’ve swung in front of the technology before, but learning how to use the analytics it provides so that I can help others learn how to improve their swing, is something I very much look forward to accomplishing.”
