Jenny Suh Thompson, PGA qualified for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this year, and she is starting to feel the pressure.
“I said to my husband, ‘I forgot how much of a grind this is!’ Working on your game is one thing, but mentally preparing for a major championship is another thing,” Jenny says.
Jenny Suh Thompson has not been playing much golf recently, as she has a seven-month-old baby at home. With this, she has put her golf game on the back burner to be with her newborn.
“I’m pretty much only mentally prepared to play in my 9 and dine league, and yet I’m playing in a major championship this week.”
This PGA Professional was once on the LPGA Tour from 2011 to 2015, so this type of field and this level of competition is not brand new to her.
“I have the experience but going from practically playing in no tournament golf since I left the tour to playing in the KPMG is quite the jump, and I am aware of that,” Jenny says.
Jenny then compares the distance of her own club at The Dye Preserve in Jupiter, Florida with Congressional Country Club.
“To go from 6200 yards to 6800 yards is going to be a big change for me. I feel like I am going from zero to one hundred,” Jenny says, “Congressional does not quite suit my game, but I’ve been playing the course as much as I could the past few weeks to help with my strategy.”
Do not let the fear in Jenny Suh Thompson’s words distract you from her goals for the week.
“I need to be kind to myself; your score can reflect how you feel.”
That statement is one that every golfer needs to remember. Jenny Suh Thompson has an incredible competition golf resume, and she is aware of what a weak mentality can do to your game.
“My perspective going into this week is that I have all the things I ever wanted when I was on tour, I finally have stability.”
This PGA professional is going into this week ready to have fun, and this is what is going to make watching Jenny Suh Thompson tee it up so special.
